OVERVIEW

The online Master’s degree in Economics and Finance (MEF) provides students with theoretical knowledge in economics and finance. Furthermore, it equips them with the tools for data analysis and model simulation employed both in the industry and in academia.

This program offers a diverse range of graduate-level courses encompassing finance, microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics, and econometrics. Elective courses are categorized into three distinct tracks: Financial Markets, Economic Policy, and Macroeconomics.

What you’ll learn

  • Understand the theoretical foundations of microeconomics, macroeconomics and finance.

The online master’s degree builds on nearly 30 years of experience in teaching the on-campus master’s program in Economics and Finance at  the Department of Economics and Statistics (DiSES) of the University of Naples Federico II, which is recognized as one of the Italian Centers of Excellence, ranking 5th among Italian research institutions in economics and within the top 200 research institutions worldwide according to the IDEAS RePEc service.

Specifically, it allows students to:

  • Identify  company’s financial needs and strategies;
  • Operate in the stock, bond, and derivatives markets;
  • Analyze policies for economic development and government interventions in the labor market;
  • Design regulatory policies and auction mechanisms.

The master’s courses cover finance, microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics and econometrics. Elective courses are organized in three tracks: Financial Markets, Economic Policy and Macroeconomics.

Tuition Fees

The registration fee for the Master amounts to €4.500 (plus € 140 for regional taxes and € 16 for stamp duty) payable in 2 installments.

REQUIREMENTS

Check minimum access requirements and application materials

Bachelor’s Degree

You must have earned a bachelor’s degree from an Italian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution in a foreign country.

Required application materials:

  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • Reference letter by a professor from the applicant’s university;
  • Official transcript of his/her undergraduate degree, displaying the overall grade (if applicable), the list of exams taken and their grades;
  • Certificate of good working knowledge of written and spoken English (TOEFL, First Cambridge
  • Certificate, Proficiency in English, IELTS or equivalent).
If students have not yet obtained a language certification they can attach a personal letter stating they are able to follow a master course taught exclusively in English and they would be willing to be contacted for an interview.

About the University

University of Naples Federico II

Founded in 1224, the University of Naples Federico II is the oldest lay university in Europe. The Federico II is one of the largest public universities in Italy, with 161 degree programs, 26 departments, 40 research centers, 37 doctoral programs, more than 2,500 faculty and more than 80,000 enrolled students.

DISES

The Department of Economics and Statistics (DISES) at the University of Naples Federico II has a long tradition in training students interested in pursuing a career in academics, policy institutions and the financial industry.
DISES was nominated center of excellence in 2018 and hosts the Center for Studies in Economics and Finance (CSEF), ranked seventh among Italian research institutes in Economics and in the top 200 research institutes in the world according to the IDEAS portal/ RePEc.
The Department currently offers a BA and a MA in Economics, a BA and MA in Finance, a MSc in Economics and Finance (MEF) and a PhD in Economics. Both the MEF and the PhD programs are entirely English-taught. Faculty members work on all major areas of microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, statistics and mathematical economics.
